AILA: CO-LIVING THROUGH CREATIVE EXPRESSION
Aila means “bringer of light” and “from a strong place”. Stress, anxiety, depression, and loneliness is an epidemic among college students, addressed in little to no ways in the college setting. Aila: Co-living Through Creative Expression is meant to be one large support group, eliminating the awkwardness and vulnerability that comes with support groups. College students who desire emotional wellness support and or who have gone through emotionally challenging or traumatic experiences are welcomed to join a co-living environment that allows them to connect with themselves and others through art, music, dance, and creative writing.
The design of Aila: Co-Living Through Creative Expression highlights the connection, communication, and support between the students by enhancing collaboration through innovative and interactive spaces and circulation. The design also emphasizes the creativity and individuality that is being expressed with confidence through vibrant and captivating materials and finishes.
Surrounded by expression, creativity, determination, and support, students connect through vertical circulation, lighting, and transparency into other individuals’ creative mindsets. Strength is presented by contrasting materials and finishes that assist in developing a dynamic scheme. Vibrant colors and unique textures create a playful atmosphere and enhance the feeling of being immersed in energy, passion, and individuality upon entering Aila: Co-living Through Creative Expression
